DORIS MUSICK
Born and reared in southwestern Virginia, Doris Musick left the area to pursue a career in the corporate world. After many years of city dwelling, Doris and her husband opted for an early retirement and returned to the mountains they both love. Returning to her roots, she became enthralled with studies of ancestry, an essential part of the fabric of the land. She found the early settlers to be lovers and protectors of Virginia’s heritage and felt a need to nurture the connection to that earlier time. Her writing reflects this love for preserving old traditions.
A work of historical fiction, The Starched Apron is based on true and actual events occurring in Russell County, Virginia, and Pike County, Kentucky, from 1792-1830. Up the Water Spout brings the reader to Washington County, Virginia, and portions of Greene County, Tennessee. Up the Water Spout is a fictional work based on stories she heard in her youth and spans a period from 1918-1942.
Doris is currently a field editor of Country Magazine and her articles appear several times each year.
