JESSCEAH CLEVINGER
Jessie’s Blueberry jam and blueberry jelly are prepared by Jessceah Clevinger and son, Louie Jr. in a USDA certified kitchen in Clinchco, Virginia. The blueberries are grown on their property and have never been sprayed or had any chemical fertilizer on them. The jam and jelly have no artificial flavorings, no artificial colorings and no preservatives. Sugar free jam is also available.
In the summer of 2003, Jessie’s Jam and Jelly were featured at the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C. This two week event celebrated the similarities between the Appalachian region of America, Scotland and Mali and highlighted the special talents of the people who live in these areas.
Jessceah learned the art of handcrafting from her mother, who taught all five children in the family the old arts of sewing, canning and gardening at an early age. Jessceah sewed clothes for her dolls as a girl and later did many alterations on clothes bought from the store so that they would fit her small frame. Crafts by Jessceah was a project begun for Appalmade in 2001–since that time Louie Jr and Jessceah have been creating folk art crafts for all occasions. Mother and son work together as a team: Jessceah does the sewing and Louie Jr. finishes the crafts with hand painting.
