KEN HENDERSON
Ken Henderson, the son of a coal miner, was born in Tazewell County, Virginia, in the waning years of the Great Depression.

About the book, Painted Mountain: The actual setting of Paint Lick Mountain is the setting and subject of the novel, Painted Mountain. The mysterious mountain holds many secrets in the Indian pictographs adorning its southern limestone walls. Ken’s visits there as a boy left an indelible memory. Returning to the mountain many years later, as an adult, he saw that the elements were destroying the beautiful prehistoric artwork. Being an ardent history buff, Ken felt that the mountain, which meant so much to the Cherokee and Shawnee tribes, should not be forgotten. He has tried to present the material in Painted Mountain in a way that honors the mountain’s sacred past.

About the book, Brothers of the Forest: Based on real people and events in our colonial history, this story tells of how settlers along the vast reaches of the American Frontier depended on one another for protection, food and companionship. Men and women who survived the country, with all its dangers, became strong enough to succeed in opening up the frontier for all who would follow.
