LINDA WEATHERLY S.
"I am energized by the creative process. I consider a day when my imagination has been stretched and pulled, when I have questioned and pushed myself beyond the obvious, to be a day well spent.
"Looking through my creations I see themes emerge: patterns, wings, butterflies and children. I am intrigued by children and their world of possibilities. Who will they become? What decisions will they make that will direct their journey in life? What fears and obstacles will they face? Along with challenges there is always hope, often symbolized by flight. They defy gravity and lift themselves above the brambles and thorns of earth. I want to feel that joy. I want the child in my picture to discover that freedom.
"I usually work in a series, exploring a set composition and media in several paintings. My interest in textiles and quilts is reflected in my use of borders around the central characters, and I find myself drawn to imagery and story. When I am contemplating a new series I browse through files of assorted images. What would I like to paint today? How can I change this image from something ordinary into something mysterious, humorous or thought provoking? Maybe I will place this object out of context or change its size or scale. Now, what does it remind me of? These are the thoughts that race through my mind and generate excitement for a new piece.
"My works are visual poems, stream of consciousness visual imagery. Until I start composing I am not sure where the image will take me. My goal is to draw the viewer into an open ended story through images that ignite the imagination and sense of delight."
