PHYLLIS WILLIAMSON
Phyllis Williamson draws inspiration from her native surroundings–from the budding plants around her mountain studio, to the coal mines that dominate the lives of so many Appalachian families. Sketches done by her mother of woodland animals began a lifelong interest in art. As a teenager, she spent many hours sketching and dreaming, but soon became consumed with more practical matters and spent a career working for the coal mines that later showed up in some of her more prominent paintings. Then, as an adult with two grown children, she returned to the fascination of her youth and almost immediately achieved a high level of success in juried exhibitions. Since then, her works have graced homes and businesses across the U.S., Europe, and India. Phyllis maintains a working studio and frame shop on Red Root Ridge, near Raven, Virginia.
