RACHEL RIGGSBY
Rachel Riggsby is a former columnist, newspaper reporter and news editor. Born in Big Rock, near Grundy, Virginia, she has lived most of her life in the nearby community of Harmon, with her husband Beager. This, her first book, is a collection of material originally published in the author’s “Miscellanea” column for The Virginia Mountaineer, Grundy’s weekly newspaper, plus a collection of poems written by the author for her two granddaughters.
In this collection you’ll find a lighthearted, and sometimes serious, look at the news events and newsmakers of the Sixties: presidential politics and policies, the early exploration of space; references to the Vietnam War; all mixed with commentary on local events, including two major floods. Reflections on childrearing are also included and are humorous, harried and heartwarming.
