RON MULLENEX
Ron Mullenex has been playing old-time music all his life. He learned his first chords at his mother’s knee, and was soon an active participant in the local square dances held every Saturday night in his community. Shortly after, he began tracking down and spending time with some of the oldest area residents who played the fiddle and banjo, learning the old tunes and songs, and paying attention to the feel of the music, and the way those folks played the tunes.

As an adult, Ron has made old-time music a very active part of his life: he has played on stages from California to England; recorded with some of the best older-generation fiddlers in the region; recorded solo and with the Gandydancer band; won numerous contests; and frequently has taught at the Augusta Heritage Workshops. He was featured in the Banjo Newsletter publication in 1999, and while he is best-known as a clawhammer-style banjoist, he also plays mandolin, fiddle, and guitar.
