VIRGINIA WARNER
Tazewell County native Virginia Warner grew up in a family that made things. As a girl, she learned how to sew from her grandmother. She started out making baby clothes and later learned to quilt at her grandmother’s side. Most gifts exchanged within the family were handmade, and all the more appreciated for it. This was a family who enjoyed passing traditions down the line to future generations. Thus Virginia has always derived pleasure from the domestic arts, and work done with the hands. Whether she is sketching from nature, gardening, preparing food, doing textile work, or making jewelry, Virginia especially enjoys creating that which is both utilitarian and beautiful.
Virginia began making jewelry five years ago and taught herself the art of bead weaving from a book. She is known for her artfully composed pieces and unusual combinations of stones and metal. Virginia uses only high quality materials: sterling silver and semiprecious gemstones such as freshwater pearls, turquoise, coral, garnet, obsidian, jade and art glass. Virginia is available to do commissioned pieces of jewelry.
