WALTER SHROYER
Walter Shroyer’s inspirations come from the surrounding landscape. He is a frequent hiker on the Appalachian Trail as it runs through Tazewell and Bland Counties. He is a keen observer of the way nature reveals its changes and processes: trees that have grown together in different abstract shapes, the contour line of a mountain, knots and textures on trees, cloud shapes that indicate wind direction, tree shadows moving on a river, geometric shapes between limbs, or stark forests of winter emerging into spring.
“There is a feeling of peacefulness and grandeur when looking at nature. I want my work to edify the viewer and communicate the abundance of nature and my thankfulness for the life it represents. Just as the landscape has been my refuge and comfort, I hope my work will be a welcome relief, a glimmer of hope, or a muse for society’s stress and frustration.” In his art, Shroyer strives to express simplicity and gesture as manifested in natural phenomena unfolding.
